Rich fire red porcelain surrounds a bright white centre in this Fire Collection ashtray, marked with a scallop shell rendered in the same deep red. A fine gold chain motif runs along the border and the moulded cigar rests, catching the light at every turn. The clean rectangular silhouette and softly notched corners give it a tailored, architectural feel. It works as readily beside an ashtray-free coffee table as it does on a smoking terrace, holding keys, rings or matches. A saturated shot of colour for an object that is usually overlooked.
